The pw device list command displays all devices currently entered for BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server and the list of groups associated with each device. If multiple groups are associated with a device, then the group values are displayed separated by commas. This command also displays the alias names of the device as an additional column under the header "Alias."
Note
For non-Administrators, or users without root access to the operating system, this command will be executed on all devices for which the user has access.
The following command displays all devices of the same type:
pw device list [<type>]
<type> = show all devices with the same type
pw device list <ip address> or <host id> or -dns <DNS name> or -t <template name>
[<MIB Type UniqueName> or alltype]
<ip address> = ip address of the device, entered as x.x.x.x
<host id> = instId of the device
dns <DNS name> = DNS name of the device
<MIB Type UniqueName> = Interface, NodeResponse, ..., etc.
alltype = list all children of any typeThis pw device list command can be run by the root user on UNIX or Linux or the Administrator user or users belonging to the group Administrators on Windows. This command cannot be run by users without Administrator privileges.
The -dns <DNS name> option enables you to list all the devices that have been created with only the <DNS name> of the device. The devices that are created with the IP address whose reverse lookup matches <DNS name> will not be listed.
If <ip address> is provided instead of the -dns option, then only those devices with the specified <ip address> are listed, and the devices that are created with the DNS name that resolves to <ip address> are not listed.
The following command allows you to specify the template name. The -t option allows you to list all the devices for which the said template was applied.
pw device list -t <template name>
The device are listed only when it meets the following criteria:
- When the template applied is successful.
- Whan the template applied is partially successful. (For example, if the template contains three monitors, and after applying a template, only two were created, or if the template has a device, agent, and monitors, and only the device and the agent got created.)
- When the template applied to a device resulted in no changes.
The device will not be listed in case the template application fails.
If a template applied to a device is deleted, it will be listed in the applied template list with "(deleted)" against it.Limitations
- If the template is applied to a device and later deleted, there will be no differentiation if a new template is created with the same name. For example, consider a scenario where you have created a template T1 and applied it to a device D1. Delete the T1 template and create another template with the same name. Apply the new template to devices D2 and D3. When you run the {
pw device list -t T1command, all the devices (D1, D2, and D3) are listed, including the device D1 created with the original T1 template. - The templates applied before Infrastructure Management 8.5 release are not be listed.
